Fruit & Herb-Infused Water Recipes

Picture
Read on for some ideas on hydration with a twist, you can create your own flavoured waters by adding in different fruit and herb combinations to plain water. Perfect to encourage drinking more water or just for cooling down in the Summer!

I've come up with 6 different flavours for you to try or take inspiration from and mix up your own ideas! They taste like fruit juices or flavoured water you can buy in shops, but it's a much healthier version than soft drinks or fizzy pop and you know these homemade versions are sugar and preservative free. Citrus and berries are the easiest fruits to start off with as they add so much flavour when infused in water. Likewise, culinary herbs that add a fantastic yet subtle taste and most poeple can easily get hold of such as some of my faves Basil, Mint and Rosemary. All you need to do is slice up your fruit and combine it with plain water (sparkling would be fab for parties!) in a glass/metal water bottle or container (with a lid is best) and leave it for a while to soak up all the flavours before drinking.

A classic combination: Cucumber, Lemon and Mint - tastes like a non-alcoholic Mojito it's the perfect refresher on a hot Summer's day!

These flavours worked wonderfully! Orange and blueberry is very fruity but not overpowering and as I used frozen blueberries they actually turned the water purple! Basil has a mild aniseed flavour that works well with the strawberry and creates a delicious, herby flavour yet still lovely and sweet.

These flavour were also really good combinations. The Ginger and Mango wasn't as strong as I wanted it to be, I think Ginger works better either infused in a tea or blended into a smoothie. Blackberry and Rosemary was a surprisingly nice one for me I wasn't sure if the Rosemary was too overpowering or not but it was a nice and subtle. Orange and Lemon is perfect if you're new to infused waters as the taste comes through so well and is so citrussy and energising. Even Lemon on its own or added to any of the above ideas will add the perfect touch as well as having a detoxing effect on the gut and dygestive system  and overall boosting the immune system and general health.

My favourite has to be Mint, Cucumber and Lemon of course! But I recommend any of the flavours I tried or make up some of your own from what's in your garden/fridge! I really want to try out a Watermelon and Kiwi combo, or maybe something like Lavender or Rose might be something a bit more adventurous but could work? Have a go making some of these yourself for your next garden party or just take to school/work to jazz up your usual water bottle and let me know how they turn out :)
